We're Michael and Carolyn Emeny β€” 4th-generation farmers from Mudgee in the NSW Central Tablelands, and the founders of Mudgee Meat. We built Meat on Repeat to solve one specific problem: making sure a household that wants to stock up properly never has to think about reordering, and never gets punished for sticking with us.

In our last Ask The Farmers, we put the same shopping basket through Mudgee Meat, Our Cow and ButcherCrowd. It cost $139.80 with us, $186.81 at Our Cow and $187.11 at ButcherCrowd, about a third more at either of the other two. You can read the full cut-by-cut breakdown in Mudgee Meat vs Our Cow vs ButcherCrowd: A Real Price Comparison.

This time we're looking past the price tag at the subscription products for each of us. Here's exactly how Meat on Repeat compares to Our Cow's and ButcherCrowd's own programs, line by line β€” answered the way we'd tell a mate over the farm gate.

What actually makes Meat on Repeat the best meat subscription offering in Australia

Fresh and chilled, never frozen. All the meat in your Meat on Repeat box is butchered in-house in Mudgee and goes to your door fresh and chilled, never frozen. Our Cow and ButcherCrowd both ship frozen, by their own websites.

Your price, locked for a full year. Neither Our Cow nor ButcherCrowd offers a price lock. On their subscriptions, your price can go up at any time. On Meat on Repeat, what you pay for your box is locked in for 12 months. No surprise increases mid-subscription.

A discount that grows the more you spend. Spend $600 or more across your box and you get 5% off. Spend $1,000 or more and it's 10%. That's a genuine scaling loyalty discount, and neither competitor offers one.

The lowest spend for free delivery. Every Meat on Repeat order ships free, for life, and our minimum box is $160. ButcherCrowd's delivery is free too, but you can't order less than their Small Box, which starts at $169. Our Cow's free delivery kicks in at $199. Of the three, we ask you to spend the least before delivery is on us.

Buy by the animal, or by the occasion. Meat on Repeat isn't a fixed box. You fill it from our whole range, and that gives you two ways to stock up.

By the animal. You can put any of our bulk packs straight into your Meat on Repeat box:

Neither Our Cow nor ButcherCrowd sells whole, half or quarter animal packs at all.

By the occasion. Not everyone has room for a side of pork, and you don't need it to buy well. Our variety packs are mixed boxes we put together in Mudgee around the way people actually cook, from under $60 to over $1,000:

Every one of them can go into your Meat on Repeat box, alongside any of our choice cuts. And whichever way you stock up, a bigger box takes you into the 5% or 10% discount tiers.

Fewer deliveries, less admin. Monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly means up to three months between orders if that suits your household. Our Cow's longest gap is every 4 weeks, and ButcherCrowd's is every 8 weeks. If you're stocking a freezer for a season rather than topping up a fridge week to week, that's real friction removed, not just a different schedule.

You never have to subscribe to shop with us. Both Mudgee Meat and Our Cow let you buy a one-off order without joining anything. ButcherCrowd is a subscription-only business, so there's no way to try them without signing up first.

Cancel anytime, from your very first order. This one matches Our Cow and ButcherCrowd exactly, with no asterisk. There's no minimum number of orders before you're free to skip, pause or walk away.

Where we're honestly not the most generous

We'd rather tell you this straight than let you find out later.

Free product. Our Cow adds a free product to every box once you spend $199 or more. ButcherCrowd is currently giving a free protein in every box from your second box. Ours lands every 3rd order.

That's a genuine perk on their side, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. But a freebie every box only goes so far if you're paying more for everything else in it. Our value is in the everyday price of the meat itself. When we priced the same four everyday cuts on all three sites on 6 October 2026, the basket came to:

  • $139.80 at Mudgee Meat
  • $186.81 at Our Cow (+$47.01)
  • $187.11 at ButcherCrowd (+$47.31)

That's about $47 saved on a single basket of four cuts, every time you shop, before any free product comes into it. Scale that across a full Meat on Repeat box, add a 12-month price lock and up to 10% off as your box grows, and that's where the real savings are. You can see the cut-by-cut numbers in our full price comparison.
